Judge Hilliard dismissed Bush’s claim that he had delayed cremations due to financial difficulties, stating that the evidence showed he had acted out of “financial greed.” The judge emphasized that Bush had repeatedly taken advantage of his position to enrich himself at the expense of others. He was described as “profligate” in his personal spending, despite his financial struggles, having spent money on holidays and motorbike racing. Additionally, he stole thousands of pounds in charitable donations collected at his funeral services. In response to the scandal, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham supported calls for stronger regulation of the funeral industry. He stated that the government must take decisive action to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
