Transition to sustainable transport begins at the Ports – APM Terminals Nigeria

APM Terminals Nigeria has advocated for the adoption of sustainable transport practices starting at the country's seaports, emphasizing their role as crucial gateways for greener and more efficient logistics. During the 10th Nigeria–EU Business Forum in Lagos, APM Terminals' Chief Commercial Officer, Westtar Kapito, highlighted the importance of transitioning to sustainable transport at Nigerian ports to reduce emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and support national environmental and economic goals. APM Terminals has already invested in modernizing maritime infrastructure, including the development of WACT Onne as Nigeria's first green port and partnerships with companies like Barging Marine Solutions Limited. Kapito emphasized that sustainable transport presents a significant economic opportunity for Nigeria by unlocking investment, strengthening supply chains, creating jobs, and positioning the country as Africa's leading maritime gateway. Other stakeholders such as the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, and Nigeria Railway Corporation were also involved in discussions on sustainable transport.
