His best result was in the 2001 West Derbyshire general election, where he placed fifth with 472 votes, or 0.9% of the total. Like Hope, he has never managed to reclaim his deposit. Baron Von Thunderclap, another Monster Raving Loony candidate, has also run in multiple elections, though specific results are less documented. The rules governing by-elections allow political parties to field multiple candidates, provided each has a valid nomination and authorization from the party’s nominating officer. Candidates must be nominated by 10 residents of the constituency and pay a £500 deposit, which is refunded if they secure over 5% of the vote.
