Director of Croatia's Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić announced results for July during a press briefing with RTL Danas, expressing confidence in the performance of the tourist season so far. He noted that visitor numbers increased by one percent compared to the previous year, with similar trends observed in overnight stays. While he could not yet provide exact figures due to ongoing data processing, he confirmed that daily guest arrivals reached around one million eight hundred thousand. Staničić emphasized that July showed progress over June, though final figures were still pending. The director acknowledged that discussions around pricing had been prominent this year, alongside security concerns, which significantly influence tourists' destination choices. He pointed out that late bookings, last-minute decisions, had played a role in shaping travel patterns, and that competitiveness in pricing was crucial. However, he noted that after months of emphasis on price transparency, some segments of the tourism offer had adjusted their pricing strategies. This, combined with positive trends, has led to optimism about the current state of the tourist industry. Staničić stressed the importance of balancing cost with quality, stating that Croatia has demonstrated it is neither too cheap nor too expensive. He highlighted that while certain segments of the tourism sector remain more competitive than others, overall, the country maintains a favorable position. The director also mentioned that efforts have been made to address pricing issues, resulting in improved tourist flows during this part of the season. According to unofficial reports, the most visited destinations so far include Rovinj, Poreč, Umag, Medulin, Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar. These locations, particularly those along the coast, have high accommodation capacity. Staničić cautioned against labeling specific winners or losers, noting that there is still much work ahead. The summer season continues through August, with expectations of further growth in visitor numbers. He also mentioned that the peak season will continue into August, with additional opportunities for growth. Looking ahead, Staničić expressed anticipation for continued positive trends in tourist traffic. He highlighted that the largest share of visitors comes from his key market, primarily Germany, and that school holidays are set to begin soon. This is expected to bring a larger influx of German tourists in August. With these developments, he remains optimistic about the future, viewing the end of August as a hopeful sign for the tourism sector. Staničić concluded by emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance between affordability and quality across all aspects of the tourist experience, including accommodation, hospitality, retail, and transportation. He reiterated that Croatia’s position in the global tourism landscape is solid, supported by both domestic and international demand. As the season progresses, the focus will remain on sustaining momentum and addressing any remaining challenges in the industry.
