‘Satluj’ review: A harrowing, heart-rending tale of impunity and courage

The film 'Satluj,' directed by Honey Trehan and based on the true story of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, explores the aftermath of his 1995 disappearance during India's Punjab conflict. Khalra was investigating enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings by the Punjab police during anti-terrorism operations. Although some junior officers were later convicted for his murder, his body was never recovered. The film follows Jaswant (played by Diljit Dosanjh) as he investigates the rise in unexplained deaths and faces threats from corrupt officials. Public pressure eventually leads to a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry. While the film highlights themes of state violence and resistance, it simplifies the real-life Jaswant Singh Khalra, who came from a politically active family.

Lectura del sesgo (Izquierda): The article focuses on systemic state violence, corruption, and the struggle against unjust authority—issues typically associated with left-leaning critiques of governance. The framing emphasizes the consequences of unchecked power and the courage of activists, aligning with progressive narratives.
