Reading drive launched to help children in underserved communities

A community-based literacy campaign was launched by Edcom 2, in collaboration with Caritas Philippines and Linya-Linya, to provide access to quality books for young Filipino children in underserved areas. The initiative, called 'BOOKsan ang Kinabukasan: Kwento Mo ‘To!,' distributes Reading Boxes and Reading Nooks containing 30–75 books to daycare centers, churches, schools, and community spaces. The campaign highlights a significant learning crisis, citing reports that nearly half of Filipino learners are not reading at grade level by Grade 3 and many children lack access to books at home. Edcom 2 emphasizes that early childhood education participation is low, and the initiative aims to address these gaps through immediate, localized efforts rather than waiting for systemic reforms.

Lectura del sesgo (Centro): The article presents a balanced overview of the literacy campaign and its connection to broader educational challenges, citing multiple reports and expert opinions without overtly favoring any political ideology. While the issue of education policy is politically charged, the framing remains neutral
