On August 1, 2026, the fire department of Poljane nad Škofjo Loko officially took possession of a new firefighting vehicle marked GVC-3. The vehicle was purchased at the end of last year and is designed to enhance the speed, safety, and efficiency of emergency responses, as well as the transportation of drinking water. It represents a major contribution to the safety of residents in the area. The new vehicle has a water tank capacity of 6,000 liters and is equipped with a rapid deployment winch, all necessary firefighting technical equipment, and space for transporting the smallest firefighting technical unit, a group consisting of a driver, a team leader, and a firefighter. The vehicle features a four-wheel drive system and an automated transmission with software tailored for off-road vehicles, which is particularly beneficial for the local terrain. The investment amounted to 300,000 euros, with the municipality of Gorenja vas, Poljane contributing one-third and the remaining two-thirds funded by the company itself. According to Poveljnik PGD Poljane nad Škofjo Loko Matija Božnar, every euro earned through distributing calendars, organizing weddings, celebrations, and other regular events plays a crucial role in enabling such a large investment. As a result, the community recently hosted an extensive celebration. On Friday, they organized a festival featuring the ensemble Potepini, while on Sunday, the festivities began as early as 11 a.m. with a program for the youngest attendees. At 5 p.m., there was a ceremonial handover of the vehicle, followed by enjoyment of performances by the ensemble Prebrisani muzikantje. The new vehicle is intended primarily for faster, safer, and more effective intervention during emergencies and for transporting drinking water. Its introduction marks a significant step forward in the region’s ability to respond swiftly and efficiently to incidents requiring immediate attention. The enhanced capabilities of the GVC-3 will support the fire department in handling a broader range of situations, including fires, rescue operations, and disaster relief efforts. The vehicle's design and specifications reflect the specific needs of the local environment, which includes challenging terrains and remote areas. The four-wheel drive and specialized software make it well-suited for these conditions, ensuring reliable performance under demanding circumstances. The inclusion of a dedicated space for the smallest firefighting technical unit enhances the department’s operational flexibility and response time. The funding structure highlights the collaborative effort between the local government and private entities. While the municipality contributed a third of the cost, the majority of the investment came from the company, underscoring the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting essential services. This collaboration exemplifies how community-driven initiatives can lead to meaningful improvements in public safety and infrastructure. The recent celebration not only honored the new vehicle but also reinforced the sense of community and shared purpose among residents. Events such as the festival and cultural performances helped to engage the public and foster a spirit of unity. These activities serve as reminders of the value of collective action in achieving common goals. The successful integration of the new vehicle into the fire department’s fleet underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing emergency services and protecting the well-being of the community.
