The Renesansni Festival in Koprivnica has been announced, with performances by the band Prljavci and singer Sergey Ćetković. The four-day event will take place from August 20th to 23rd, transforming the city’s medieval walls into a stage set in late medieval times. Visitors can expect knights, master craftsmen, court jesters, and musicians, alongside dishes prepared according to historical recipes. This year's edition marks a unique collaboration with the Ljeto na Zrinskom festival, which will conclude on the same weekend, offering two distinct programs: one rooted in history within the ancient walls and another featuring contemporary music and cuisine in the city park. The festival will feature over 1,300 costumed participants from 13 European countries, bringing the late Middle Ages to life through tournaments, sword fighting, equestrian displays, demonstrations of old crafts, alchemists, traveling merchants, and interactive experiences for all visitors. Key highlights include a ceremonial procession of knightly groups, horseback tournaments, and a night attack on the town complete with fire arrows, cannons, and swords. Attendees can watch fire and water shows, medieval theater performances, and participate in workshops on calligraphy, pottery, archery, and alchemy. A notable aspect of the festival is its commitment to authentic gastronomy. No plastic will be used, and food and drinks will be served exclusively in paper, wooden, and ceramic containers. The menu includes dishes such as roasted pork, chestnut stew, game meat stew, and crayfish roasts, accompanied by honey wine, herb beer, and other beverages made using medieval recipes. The festival has received recognition from the Croatian Tourism Association, winning the “Simply the Best” award eight consecutive years. This achievement underscores its status among the most awarded tourist events in Croatia, blending cultural heritage, history, and gastronomy. Simultaneously with the Renesansni Festival, the Ljeto na Zrinskom festival will have its finale during the same weekend. From August 20th to 22nd, the city park will host “Bistro u Parku,” a new musical and culinary zone featuring wine and beer tastings. The musical program will be led by DJ Krnya, with evenings reserved for concerts. On Friday, Sergey Ćetković will perform, while Saturday will see the performance of the Prljavo Kazalište. Lana Miletić, director of the City Tourism Association of Koprivnica, emphasized the festival’s ability to maintain authenticity while expanding its offerings. “The Renesansni Festival has preserved its authenticity for nearly two decades, which is its greatest value. Visitors know they will experience the Renaissance within the walls, without compromising historical accuracy. This year, we extend the Ljeto na Zrinskom festival to the festival weekend, giving Koprivnica additional value and richer content for all generations. We believe this concept will allow visitors to experience two completely different things in one weekend: the authentic historical story of the Renesansni Festival and the modern musical and culinary program of Ljeto na Zrinskom.” Koprivnica will offer a diverse program from August 20th to 23rd. The Renesansni Festival provides historical content, family workshops, and knightly tournaments, while Ljeto na Zrinskom offers contemporary music and cuisine. The full program for the Ljeto na Zrinskom festival is available on the official channels of the City Tourism Association of Senj. The complete program for the Renesansni Festival will soon be published on the website www.renesansnifestival.hr.
