For over a decade, Jackson lived with the hernia, unable to work and reliant on Universal Credit and carers for daily assistance. She described the condition as a "prison" that confined her to her home, preventing her from engaging in normal activities. Despite multiple attempts to seek treatment, including consultations with several surgeons between 2021 and early 2025, none offered viable options for surgery. In October 2025, Jackson was prescribed Mounjaro through the National Health Service. The decision came after a conversation with a nurse who recognized the potential benefits of the drug for weight management. Since then, Jackson has lost four stone, bringing her weight down to 22st. This reduction has placed her within the "overweight" category, potentially qualifying her for hernia surgery. With a current BMI of 54.6, she needs to lose approximately 10 more stones to reach a BMI below 30, thereby meeting the criteria for surgical eligibility. The progress has been transformative for Jackson. She reports feeling significantly better physically and emotionally, attributing her improved state to the combination of Mounjaro and lifestyle changes. She has adopted a healthier diet and increased her activity level, marking a dramatic shift from her previous reliance on food for emotional comfort. “Mounjaro has kick-started my healthy eating,” she said. “I eat so healthily now and I feel so much better. It’s been a miracle.” Jackson’s determination to regain control of her life has intensified as the hernia continues to grow. Currently measuring 52cm, the hernia has expanded by 10cm in the past year, with no sign of slowing. For Jackson, the prospect of surgery represents not just a medical intervention but a chance to reclaim her independence and return to work. “I’ve missed out on so much of my life,” she said. “The hernia stops me from going anywhere.
