MoF will appoint more marketplace company as tax collectors

Indonesia's Ministry of Finance plans to expand the number of marketplace companies designated to collect income tax (PPh) under Article 22 from e-commerce sales. Currently, four platforms—including Tokopedia, Blibli, Shopee, and Lazada—are tasked with collecting 0.5% income tax from sellers whose annual gross revenue exceeds Rp500 million. This policy, set to take effect on August 1, 2026, shifts the tax collection mechanism from direct payments by sellers to automatic deductions made by the platforms. The government emphasizes that this is not a new tax but a procedural update to align with the evolving digital economy. Platforms will issue tax receipts, remit the collected taxes to the state treasury, and report them through the Unified Periodic Tax Return.
