Authorities in Comondú, Baja California Sur, have recovered six fragments of human bone during a search operation conducted over the weekend. The discovery was made during simultaneous efforts in Comondú, Mulegé, and Los Cabos, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State (PGJE). The remains were secured in accordance with established protocols and transported to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for further processing and identification. The PGJE confirmed that the operation yielded positive results only in Comondú, while searches in Mulegé and Los Cabos concluded without additional findings. The colectivo Búsqueda x La Paz-Comondú, which participated in the weekend searches, reported that 16 individuals who died between 2022 and 2026 remain unidentified in the area. This is due to the lack of genetic samples available for comparison, prompting authorities to urge families of missing persons to submit DNA samples. A call for DNA donations has been issued, with a scheduled collection event set for August 4th at the City of Insurgents (Comondú) Cultural Center, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to attend this free and confidential procedure, which can aid in identifying remains found during previous searches. Officials emphasized that some individuals have not returned home because there is no one to compare their DNA with. Participants in the campaign noted that the collection of DNA samples is part of broader efforts to reduce delays in forensic identification and assist families in reclaiming their loved ones. They reiterated that the call extends to residents of Ciudad Insurgentes, Puerto López Mateos, Ciudad Constitución, and the ejidos.
