Govt study says Long Island works will have minor impact on environment

The Singaporean government released an environmental impact assessment (EIA) predicting that preparatory works for the reclamation of Long Island off East Coast Park will have a minor environmental impact. The EIA, commissioned by the National Parks Board (NParks) on behalf of the Housing Board, covers two phases of work aimed at reclaiming approximately 800 hectares of land. The report, conducted by consultancy DHI Water and Environment, notes that while some wildlife, like hawksbill turtles, may face challenges during the process, the overall impact is considered minor. Scientists and local anglers expressed concerns, highlighting potential omissions in the study and the importance of preserving the area's marine biodiversity.
