The Lamma IV, a vessel transporting 124 Hong Kong Electric workers and their family members to witness the National Day fireworks display over Victoria Harbour, met its fate when it collided with the catamaran Sea Smooth off Lamma Island. This collision led to the ship sinking, marking one of the deadliest maritime accidents in Hong Kong in recent decades. The tragedy occurred on October 1, 2012, and left a profound impact on the community, prompting ongoing investigations into the causes and responsibilities surrounding the disaster.
