During the summit, Erdogan also commented on the conflict in Ukraine, expressing hope that hostilities between Russia and Ukraine could be resolved through peaceful means. Turkey played a pivotal role in brokering the Black Sea Grain Initiative, a landmark agreement that facilitated the export of Ukrainian grain and Russian agricultural products. However, Russia withdrew from the deal last year, leading to renewed concerns about food insecurity in several regions. The SCO, established in 2001, has grown in prominence as a forum for regional cooperation among its member states. While its exact policies and ambitions remain unclear, the group has increasingly positioned itself as an alternative to Western-led international institutions.
