A couple arrived at Pelješac for a holiday, but after five days they packed their belongings and left. They discovered what was bothering them. The couple described their experience at the Lavanda campsite in Orebić through a Facebook group called “Kroatien mit Camper,” which quickly sparked discussions among other guests and camping enthusiasts in Croatia. Their post highlighted both positive and negative aspects of their stay. The parcels were described as well-organized and some even very spacious. The sanitary facilities were noted as modern, clean, and well-maintained. They praised the restaurant, the food, and the prices, which they considered reasonable. On the beach, they had no trouble finding free loungers and sunbeds. However, the unexpected issue led them to decide to leave earlier than planned. One thing became unbearable. The main problem was almost complete lack of shade on the parcel where they stayed. High summer temperatures without natural protection from the sun became so uncomfortable that they tried to find another parcel. When this failed, they concluded that such a vacation no longer made sense. They also mentioned several additional issues. Occasionally, they noticed an unpleasant smell from the sewage system. The Wi-Fi signal was very weak, and the path to the beach was quite steep. This particularly bothered them because they traveled with a child and carried items daily to the sea. Despite these problems, they especially praised the reception staff. Because they left before the agreed time, they were not charged extra fees, which the family described as a very correct move. Other guests had completely different experiences. Their post sparked a debate, as several other tourists did not agree with the criticisms. Guests who stayed in the first row along the sea stated they were extremely satisfied and would return. Some pointed out that they had enough shade even when temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius. Others acknowledged that they too had rejected sites located high above the beach precisely due to distance and the steep path to the sea. In comments, there were also suggestions for other campers, ranging from using tourist SIM cards instead of the camper’s Wi-Fi to recommendations for other campsites on Pelješac with more natural shade. This story actually shows how the experience at the same destination can vary depending on the parcel, expectations, and needs of the guests. For one family, Pelješac was sufficient after five days. For others, the same camp was a place they would return to without hesitation.
