Clausuran cinco predios en la Biosfera de Celestún y Río Lagartos; detectan daños a manglares y dunas

The Mexican environmental protection agency, Profepa, conducted a national operation in which it closed five properties in Celestún and Río Lagartos due to illegal occupation of coastal areas and damage to mangroves and dunes. The operation, part of a larger effort across 33 protected natural areas in 25 states, targeted illegal land-use changes and unauthorized occupation of coastal ecosystems. Authorities reported finding 2,578 square meters of mangrove removed, burned vegetation, and a wetland filled in, along with 274 square meters of federal maritime-terrestrial zone occupied without authorization. These actions were taken under a temporary closure order and plans for a criminal report. The sites are part of two important biosphere reserves in the Yucatán Peninsula known for their biodiversity and ecological services.
