The WADA updated its guidelines regarding meldonium in 2022, making it more difficult to prove intentional misuse. These changes were not retroactive, meaning they would not affect past cases. However, if Mudrik had undergone testing under these new rules today, the agency would not have detected the presence of the substance. This shift in policy played a key role in the reconsideration of his case. Both the FA and WADA have expressed willingness to work with Mudrik to resolve the issue. After months of negotiation, the parties reached an agreement that allows the player to resume competition. He missed the entire 2024–25 season due to the suspension, during which he had previously played seven league matches before the ban was imposed.
