The government will provide more than 2.5 million euros for the fire renovation of student residences

The Slovenian government has allocated more than 2.5 million euros to carry out fire safety renovations at student dormitories, including the Student's Home in Ljubljana and those under the University of Primorska. The funding was included in the development programs for the period 2026–2029, with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports responsible for distributing the funds. According to official statements, the ministry approved the allocation of financial resources for maintenance work related to student accommodations in 2026 and 2027. For the year 2026, the Student’s Home in Ljubljana and the student residences under the University of Primorska were granted a total of 732,868 euros. In 2027, the amount increased to 1,832,171 euros. These allocations are part of a broader initiative aimed at improving infrastructure within educational institutions. The projected costs for the renovation works at the Student’s Home in Ljubljana are over 2.3 million euros, with the ministry contributing approximately 2.2 million euros. The remaining 52,199 euros will be covered by the Student’s Home itself. At the same time, the estimated cost for the renovation works at the student residences under the University of Primorska amounts to 876,670 euros. Of this sum, the ministry will provide 300,600 euros, while the remaining 576,069 euros will be sourced from the university’s own budget. This distribution reflects the shared responsibility between public authorities and institutional entities in ensuring safe living conditions for students. The decision to allocate these funds comes amid ongoing efforts to modernize housing facilities across Slovenia. Fire safety improvements have become a priority following several incidents that highlighted vulnerabilities in older buildings. The renovations aim to meet current safety standards and ensure compliance with national regulations. The project also aligns with broader goals of enhancing the quality of life for students and supporting sustainable campus environments. The ministry emphasized that the funding will enable necessary upgrades such as improved fire detection systems, emergency exits, and updated electrical installations. Officials stated that the process of implementing the renovations will begin shortly after the approval of the funding, with timelines yet to be finalized.
