Millions of euros worth of jewelry disappeared from a French museum.
A burglary occurred at the Musée Lalique in Wingen-sur-Moder, Alsace, early on July 5th. The thieves, wearing masks, broke into the museum through forced entry and smashed six display cases containing crystal jewelry, though no precious stones were stolen. Approximately twenty items were taken, with estimated losses around four million euros. According to reports, the security system was activated, but the security agency failed to respond promptly, allowing the cleaner to call the police first. Local authorities criticized this delay, noting the museum was considered a 'sensitive site' following a high-profile theft from the Louvre in October 2025. The museum remains closed temporarily while investigators review footage and descriptions of the stolen items.
