Vucic announced the acquisition of new, large aircraft: We will be among the first three countries in Europe in terms of equipment

President Aleksandar Vučić announced plans to purchase new large aircraft, stating that Serbia will become one of the top three countries in Europe in terms of equipment. The announcement came during his visit to the Jablanica and Pčinja districts, where he assessed the ongoing fire situation in Deliblatska Peščara. Despite the severity of the blaze, Vučić emphasized that the situation was under control and expressed confidence in the efforts of firefighters working to extinguish the flames. The fire, which continues to burn in Deliblatska Peščara, has prompted international support. Serbia has accepted assistance from European Union member states, with four Black Hawk helicopters set to aid in firefighting operations. These helicopters, sourced from Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany, can carry up to 3.5 tons, slightly less than the capacity of Super Pumas and Kamovs, which can transport up to four and five tons respectively. While the contribution of these helicopters is described as modest compared to heavier models, Vučić acknowledged their value and thanked the contributing nations. In addition to the EU’s support, Russia has sent an Iljušin aircraft to assist with fire suppression efforts. Vučić extended gratitude to both the European Union and Russia for their contributions. He confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the fire and noted that damage to private and state-owned properties was minimal. However, he highlighted the potential long-term environmental impact on the Deliblatska Peščara ecosystem, emphasizing the need for careful management of the area. Vučić also outlined additional measures to enhance the capabilities of fire services, including the procurement of large aircraft specifically designed for firefighting. His remarks suggest a strategic shift toward improving Serbia's emergency response infrastructure. According to Vučić, these investments will position Serbia among the leading countries in Europe in terms of readiness and equipment. He further indicated that such fires are likely to increase in frequency in the coming years, underscoring the urgency of preparedness. During his inspection, Vučić reiterated that no construction will take place in the affected areas of Deliblatska Peščara. He explained that the region, due to its unique combination of wind patterns, sunlight exposure, soil composition, pine forests, and other natural factors, presents significant challenges for human activity. This statement reflects a commitment to preserving the ecological integrity of the site. Vučić also mentioned that the government will work on restoring and protecting the local ecosystem. His comments highlight a dual focus: immediate disaster response and long-term environmental stewardship. As the situation develops, the government is expected to provide updates on progress in both firefighting efforts and broader initiatives aimed at safeguarding the region’s natural resources.
