They're going to have to build a new bridge in Kukanka.

In Ukancu, near the village of Bohinj, local authorities have announced they will need to construct a new bridge over the Bistrica River instead of proceeding with the originally planned renovation of the existing one. The decision comes after assessments revealed the current structure was more deteriorated than initially anticipated. As of August 16, 2026, the municipality of Bohinj is still awaiting necessary approvals and documentation before the project can proceed, pushing its implementation into the following year. The Bohinjski občinski svet, during its final session before the summer break, approved a revised budget that aligns with updated expectations regarding income and expenses. This includes higher projected revenue from tourist fees and parking charges, along with increased state financial support for the rehabilitation of the Ravne Plaz. These adjustments reflect the evolving financial landscape faced by the municipality. On the infrastructure front, changes in the timing and scope of individual projects are primarily due to alignment with national tenders and schedules for execution. Silvo Režek, responsible for preparing the budget at the municipality, explained that some funds previously allocated for road paving in the Kamnje, Polje area are being shifted to future years, as the investment has not yet been completed this year. A notable change concerns the reconstruction project of the old bridge over the Savica River in Ukancu. Originally intended for renovation, the plan has shifted toward constructing a new bridge, currently, the municipality awaits all required approvals and documentation. Consequently, funds earmarked for the renovation have been redirected to other infrastructure projects, such as the repair of local roads. For instance, the repair of the road from Podjelje to Goreljek is scheduled for this year, with over 800,000 euros allocated for the work. Similarly, the start of construction for the central wastewater treatment plant has been postponed to the coming year due to additional requirements from the state. Despite these delays, several infrastructure projects have already been completed in the first half of 2026. These include the completion of sewage system construction in Studorje, the connection of the sewage systems in Nemški Rovt, Bohinjska Bistrica, and the reconstruction of the state road with the construction of a pavement bypass near Lipa. Additionally, the sewage system in Ukancu near Lake Bohinj has been finished. Starting in September, the reconstruction of the road through Kamnje will begin, accompanied by the improvement of the pavement. At the same time, the long-awaited pavement will be addressed. In recent days, the construction of a connecting path between Češnjica and Srednja Vasja will commence, which aims to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety while linking villages in a modern and friendly manner. The plans also include the commencement of the renewal of the bridge on the Ajdovska Road in Bohinjska Bistrica. Ongoing efforts include the extensive renovation of the road from Koprivnik to Goreljek, and in Srednja Vas, the first phase of sewer construction will begin this year. Most of the infrastructure works are planned for the coming year. The entire project is estimated to cost around five million euros.
