Construction has officially begun on a flood protection embankment along the Ljubljanica River in the Sneberje neighborhood of Ljubljana, three years after a major flood damaged the area. The project, valued at over 2.5 million euros, is being executed by the construction firm Gradnje Žveplan under contract with the Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Water Management. While preparatory works have started, residents note that heavy machinery remains idle because a building permit is still required for approximately one-quarter of the embankment’s total length. The remaining three-quarters can proceed without a permit as maintenance work in the public interest. Local authorities state that land acquisition processes are mostly complete, though some procedures remain pending, which delays the application for the necessary permits.
