A German brand launched a premium convertible in Argentina

A German automaker has launched a high-end convertible in Argentina, introducing the BMW M440i xDrive Cabrio as part of its renewed sports lineup in the country. The vehicle was unveiled during the BMW Experience, a two-day event held at the Roberto Mouras race track in La Plata, where dealers and press representatives had the opportunity to test drive several models from the company. Alongside the new convertible, other novelties included the BMW M2 CS, the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4, and the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition. Additionally, the motorcycle BMW F 450 GS was announced prior to the event. The M440i xDrive Cabrio joins the local catalog alongside the BMW 430i Coupé, though with different mechanical and body specifications. It falls under the M Performance category, which positions itself between conventional versions of the brand and higher-performance vehicles developed by the German automaker. Equipped with a six-cylinder petrol engine and all-wheel drive, the convertible features a M TwinPower Turbo engine with a displacement of 2998 cm³, delivering 387 horsepower between 5800 and 6500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1800 and 5000 rpm. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic Steptronic Sport transmission with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. With this configuration, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. The combined fuel consumption stated in the technical sheet is 14.1 km per liter, equivalent to approximately 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers, with a fuel tank capacity of 59 liters. Dynamic equipment includes an M Sport differential, which electronically regulates the degree of locking between the rear wheels to improve traction and stability. It also features M Sport suspension, variable-ratio steering, and M Sport brakes with blue calipers. The 19-inch M bicolor Jetblack wheels are accompanied by tires with different dimensions on each axle, featuring run-flat technology that allows continued driving for a limited distance after a loss of pressure. The main difference compared to the rest of the local Series 4 offering lies in the roof. The M440i uses a fabric soft-top with electric operation, requiring 18 seconds to open or close. The mechanism can be used while the vehicle is moving up to a speed of 50 km/h. According to BMW, the design aims to maintain the appearance of a textile roof while achieving sound and thermal insulation levels similar to those of a retractable hardtop. The convertible's fabric roof can be opened or closed in 18 seconds. The cabin also includes a fold-down wind deflector installed behind the front seats to reduce turbulence when driving with the roof open. When not in use, it can be stored in a compartment behind the rear seat backrest. The chassis structure received lateral reinforcements to compensate for the absence of a fixed roof. BMW highlights the low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution as part of the tuning of the convertible. The M440i xDrive Cabrio measures 4770 mm in length, 1852 mm in width, and 1394 mm in height. The declared trunk capacity is 385 liters. Externally, the model distinguishes itself with the M aerodynamic package, which modifies the bumpers, side skirts, and rear diffuser. Additional features include Shadow Line M finishes in glossy black and the characteristic double-kidney vertical grille of the Series 4. Lighting consists of adaptive LED headlights.
