This was followed by the founding of two independent educational units: the Secondary Vocational and Technical School and the Higher Vocational School, as well as the establishment of the Higher Commercial School of Celje, which became the first independent higher education institution in the city, now known as the Faculty of Business and Economics. For twenty years, Geršak served as president of the Sports Association of Celje and as president of the Basketball Club of Celje. Under his leadership, the basketball club achieved commendable results, with young players twice becoming national champions, according to the City Council of Celje. Geršak's legacy extends beyond his professional roles. His efforts in promoting education and sports have had a lasting impact on the local community.
