UJ and UW are the best, then the Warsaw University of Technology.

The annual 'Perspektywy' University Rankings for 2026 have been released, with the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw ranked first. The Warsaw University of Technology followed closely, celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. The best private university was Leon Koźmiński Academy, while the top vocational institution was the State School of Applied Sciences in Koszalin. The rankings aim to assist high school graduates in choosing their higher education path by providing an objective assessment based on factors such as graduate employment rates, research output, internationalization, and educational quality. The rankings are compiled annually by the Educational Foundation 'Perspektywy,' using external data like the National ELA system, which tracks the economic outcomes of graduates.

In Poland, the annual Ranking Perspektywy has once again highlighted the nation's top higher education institutions, offering insights into academic excellence and institutional performance. The 2026 edition of this long-standing ranking, published by the Educational Foundation Perspektywy, revealed that the University of Warsaw (UW) and the Jagiellonian University (UJ) share the top spot in the category of academic universities. This marks a significant recognition for both institutions, which have consistently been among the most prestigious in the country. Following them on the podium was the Warsaw University of Technology (PW), which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2026. The fourth position went to the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, followed by the Gdańsk University of Technology, Wrocław University of Technology, and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Eighth place was shared between the Łódź University of Technology and the Silesian University of Technology. Completing the top ten were the Poznań University of Technology, the Medical University of Białystok, and the University of Gdańsk.

The Ranking Perspektywy, first introduced in 2000, evaluates both academic and vocational universities, including both public and private institutions. It considers a wide range of factors, such as the qualifications of teaching staff, the number of scientific publications, citation indices, innovation, internationalization, and other indicators related to the quality of education and research output. These metrics are derived primarily from the national ELA system—Economic Outcomes of Graduates—which tracks how graduates fare economically after completing their studies, including their employment rates and salaries.

This year’s ranking also identified the best vocational university, which was awarded to the State Applied Sciences Academy in Koszalin. In the category of non-public academic universities, the Leon Koźmiński Academy in Warsaw emerged as the winner. The ranking process is overseen by the Kapituła, a committee chaired by Professor Michał Kleiber, former president of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The committee includes representatives from academia, innovation-supporting institutions, the labor market, and publishing houses such as Elsevier. This diverse group ensures that the evaluation criteria remain comprehensive and reflective of multiple dimensions of educational quality.

According to Waldemar Siwiński, the director of the ranking and creator of Poland's educational rankings, the primary goal of Ranking Perspektywy is to assist high school students in making informed decisions about their future studies. He described it as a “compass” guiding students toward the best possible educational path. Additionally, the ranking serves as a mirror for the academic community, allowing universities to assess their strengths and areas needing improvement based on consistent and methodologically sound evaluations over time.

The 2026 edition of the ranking also included an assessment of 76 study programs across academic universities. Among these, the University of Warsaw led with 17 top-ranked programs, while the Jagiellonian University followed closely with 15. A new addition to the list of evaluated fields was the program in electro-radiology, where the Warsaw Medical University topped the charts. Other notable programs include law, philosophy, nursing, biology, chemistry, physics, and several others, all of which were assessed based on the same rigorous standards applied to the overall university rankings.

The results of the Ranking Perspektywy 2026 provide a detailed snapshot of the current state of higher education in Poland, highlighting the institutions and programs that excel in terms of research, teaching quality, and graduate outcomes. As the academic year progresses, these findings will likely influence student choices, institutional strategies, and policy discussions aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education nationwide.
