Over thirty Croatian organizations and individuals sent an open letter on Tuesday calling for a boycott of the Israeli performance 'Two Room Apartment' at the 15th Šibenik Dance Festival, citing institutional, diplomatic, and cultural ties with Israeli institutions. The letter was addressed directly to festival director Zorana Mihelčić, who reportedly denied involvement of problematic institutions and sponsors, while removing logos such as the Israeli Embassy, Teva, and Pliva from the festival’s website. Signatories argue that the Israeli embassy previously praised the participation of its artists at the festival, which they claim confirms connections with a state accused of genocide, and whose leadership has issued arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity. They emphasize that the boycott call is not against the artists personally but against institutional ties and funding that normalize Israel’s international presence during its occupation, apartheid, and genocide against the Palestinian people. The letter notes that although logos were removed and donations returned, the issue remains unresolved.
Bias read (Progressive): The article frames the boycott call as a justified stance against institutional ties with Israel, emphasizing human rights concerns and accusing Israel of genocide and apartheid. The language used by signatories reflects a strong anti-Israel position, aligning with left-wing perspectives on global人权
