Ukraine, Zelensky shows photo of family killed in Russian raid

Volodymyr Zelensky has shared a photograph of a Ukrainian family killed in a Russian missile strike, highlighting the human toll of the ongoing conflict. The image shows the Voronov family before the attack, which occurred in Radushne, near Kryvyi Rih, in the Dnipro region. According to Zelensky’s official Twitter account, the missile struck a civilian home, resulting in the deaths of the parents and three children. The attack is believed to have been carried out using an Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Voronezh. The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that its forces conducted a large-scale attack targeting military infrastructure, including airfields, military-industrial complexes, telecommunications hubs, and logistics centers. The strikes were concentrated in Kyiv and Lviv, with additional targets in the regions of Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Vinnytsia, and Dnipropetrovsk. The ministry also reported that two cargo ships were hit in the Black Sea ports of Yuzhny and Odessa, both carrying military equipment. The stated objective of the attacks was to disrupt the production, storage, and transportation of various types of missiles and drones, as well as to interfere with the operation of the airspace control system. Local authorities confirmed that six individuals, including two young girls aged five and twelve, were killed in the missile strike in Kryvyi Rih. A separate attack in Kyiv and another in Poltava resulted in one fatality each. The mayor's military administration head, Oleksandr Vilkul, described the incident in Radushne as a direct hit on a private residence, killing four adults and two children. He noted that the force of the impact left little of the house intact and that fragments of human bodies were found among the debris, requiring further analysis to identify victims. In his message, Zelensky emphasized the need for international support in acquiring defensive systems such as the Patriot missiles, which could intercept Russian ballistic missiles. He urged global leaders to recognize the urgent humanitarian need for such technology, stating that families like the Voronovs could suffer fatal consequences without these defenses. “We are not speaking of abstractions,” he wrote. “We are talking about real families, real people who can live only if there are systems capable of stopping Russian missiles.” Zelensky’s post included a detailed list of the Voronov family members, including the grandparents, several children, and even a grandchild. He described the emotional devastation caused by the attack, noting that the missile’s impact destroyed nearly everything in the house. The photo he posted showed the family smiling together, underscoring the tragic contrast with the reality they faced. His call for global action underscores the broader geopolitical stakes of the war, as Ukraine continues to seek international backing for its defense capabilities. The attack in Radushne adds to the growing body of evidence of civilian casualties attributed to Russian military operations.
