Uber has launched self-driving cars in London

Uber has launched autonomous rides in London using artificial intelligence technology developed by British startup Wayve, making London the second European city after Zagreb to offer self-driving taxi services. Initially, licensed operators will be present in the vehicles to monitor operations before transitioning to fully autonomous driving. The service will start with fewer than 20 vehicles, available through UberX, Uber Comfort, or Uber Electric, allowing users to ride in a Ford Mustang Mach-E equipped with Wayve’s AI driver system at no extra cost. Regulatory hurdles remain for full autonomy, but Uber aims to build credibility with both consumers and the government. UK Transport Minister Heidi Alexander praised the initiative as a milestone for London’s future mobility, highlighting British innovation in bringing this technology to roads and offering passengers more choice. Wayve’s AI Driver learns from experience like human drivers, adapting to new roads, vehicles, weather conditions, and cities. Uber partnered with Wayve in 2024 to expand the use of Wayve-powered vehicles across multiple markets.

Big news for London, but Zagreb was the first.

Bias read (Center): Članak neutralno opisuje tehničke detalje i progres u implementaciji autonomnih vožnji, bez jasne strane podrijetva. Nema evidentnog političkog slanja, a objektivno prikazuje sudjelovanje državnih i privrednih subjekata.
