Blazars, which are active galaxies emitting narrow jets of radiation and matter toward Earth, remain a complex and enigmatic subject for astronomers. A Polish-German research team conducted the first long-term analysis of the blazar PKS 2155-304, located 1.5 billion light-years away, and found that the object continues to raise more questions than it answers. Blazars are challenging to study due to their extreme distances, highly variable emissions across a broad energy spectrum, and the fact that they are often observed only sporadically. This study highlights the limitations of previous short-term observations and suggests that our current understanding of blazar behavior may be incomplete.
