Tucaković gave new details about the fires: The situation is under control everywhere except in Zadar

Firefighters have brought all wildfires under control except for one near Zadar, according to Croatia’s chief fire commander Slavko Tucaković. He told N1 that while conditions remain challenging due to the threat posed by the wind known locally as “maestral,” the situation is improving across the region. The fires, which have been burning in the Dalmatian coast, continue to pose risks, particularly in areas such as Omis and Pelješac, where crews are working tirelessly to contain the blazes. The fires began in several locations along the Adriatic coast, with some flaring up on the northern side of Omis. Firefighters used water and foam to suppress the flames, though they warned that the wind could still cause unpredictable flare-ups. In Pelješac, forces were relocated to better manage the situation, and the area is currently under control. Similarly, the fire near Trogir has been contained, and efforts are ongoing to ensure it does not reignite. However, the blaze in the Ninske Stanovnica area remains active, though officials expect it to be extinguished soon. Currently, four aerial tankers are operating in the air, with another stationed on Brač ready to join the operation. These resources will help increase the capacity to tackle the remaining fires before nightfall. Additional support has arrived from firefighters in four continental counties and Zagreb, who have been deployed to reinforce existing teams. The Croatian Fire Department has also placed backup units from Zagreb County on standby at Vučevica, prepared to respond wherever needed. Tucaković issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to avoid open flames and to properly dispose of lit materials. He emphasized that despite repeated appeals, the damage caused by the fires has been severe. People and property have suffered, with irreversible harm done to both human lives and the environment. He noted that the loss of forests has led to soil erosion, further complicating recovery efforts.
