Toyota has frozen the list price of one of its flagship models, yet sales have declined, according to reports from local media. The Toyota Corolla Cross, which was the best-selling sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the Argentine market last year, saw a sharp drop in sales during the first half of this year. According to data from the Argentine Automobile Dealers Association (Acara), the model recorded 5,634 registrations between January and June, marking a 43.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. The decline in sales for the Corolla Cross was more pronounced than the overall trend in the zero-kilometer vehicle market, which registered 294,181 registrations during the same period, a 9.9% reduction from the previous year. This downturn appears to be linked to increased competition within the mid-size SUV segment, driven by the introduction of new models following the liberalization of the automotive market. In addition to external factors, internal changes within the brand have also played a role. The launch of the Yaris Cross, which achieved 4,479 sales since its release this year, has contributed to shifting consumer preferences. However, the Yaris Cross competes in a lower segment, segment B, compared to the Corolla Cross, which operates in segment C. Despite these developments, the Corolla Cross continues to hold a strong position in the market, though its performance has been affected by broader economic conditions. As part of its commercial strategy to regain competitiveness, Toyota decided to maintain frozen list prices for the Corolla Cross throughout July. This pricing policy, which began in February, aims to stabilize demand amid fluctuating market conditions. The decision reflects the company’s efforts to retain customers in a challenging environment while managing costs associated with inflation and currency fluctuations. The Corolla Cross remains one of the top-selling SUVs in Argentina, although its position has shifted slightly due to the competitive landscape. In the first half of 2026, the model ranked among the top ten best-selling SUVs in the country, though specific rankings were not detailed in the latest reports. The continued presence of the Corolla Cross in the top ten underscores its enduring appeal despite the challenges faced by the automotive sector. Industry analysts suggest that the decline in sales could be attributed to a combination of factors, including rising interest rates, reduced consumer confidence, and the availability of alternative models from both domestic and international brands. These pressures have led many consumers to delay purchases or opt for more affordable options, particularly in the lower segments of the market. Looking ahead, Toyota is likely to continue monitoring market trends and adjusting its strategies accordingly. The company may introduce further incentives or promotional activities to boost sales, especially as the second half of the year approaches. With the automotive industry facing ongoing uncertainty, maintaining a stable pricing structure while adapting to changing consumer behavior will remain a key challenge for the manufacturer.
