A 31-year-old software engineer named Vinay Gupta died after being assaulted by his wife’s family members in Delhi following a matrimonial dispute. The incident occurred on Friday at his residence in Nihal Vihar, outer Delhi. According to police, four individuals have been detained for questioning but not yet formally arrested. A criminal case under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the suspects. Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi Park, had married a 31-year-old woman from Budh Vihar approximately three and a half years ago. The couple has twin children, a boy and a girl, who are about four months old. Police confirmed that the dispute between the couple began on Friday morning. According to reports, an argument erupted between Vinay and his wife over administering medicine to their child. After the argument, Vinay’s wife contacted her family members, who arrived at their residence in Nihal Vihar. The family members allegedly assaulted Vinay severely, resulting in his death. Vinay was employed as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida, while his wife is a homemaker. His family described the incident as premeditated, alleging that his wife turned off the CCTV cameras at the house prior to the attack. According to the family, Vinay’s wife, Rekha, arrived at the house accompanied by her two brothers, a sister-in-law, her father, an uncle, and another individual. The group allegedly entered the house and assaulted Vinay, beating him repeatedly, strangling him, and striking him on his chest with their hands and feet. Vinay’s parents attempted to intervene and stop the assault, but the attack continued. Neighbors witnessed the incident and assisted in moving Vinay outside, where he was placed on a chair before being taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The family claims that Vinay had been living in a separate room on the third floor of the house with his parents, while his wife prepared meals separately. They also allege that Rekha frequently argued with Vinay’s mother and that one of her brothers had previously threatened to harm Vinay over minor disputes. Police have arrested four individuals connected to the incident, including Vinay’s wife Rekha, her two brothers, and another accused. A forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the specific roles played by each of the accused individuals. The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of multiple family members in the alleged murder and the nature of the dispute that led to such a violent outcome. The incident highlights the complex dynamics within families and the potential for escalation in domestic conflicts. While the exact sequence of events leading up to the assault remains under investigation, the police are focusing on determining whether the attack was planned and the extent of each participant’s involvement. The case is expected to proceed through formal legal channels, with further developments anticipated as the investigation continues.
