Tamil Nadu government hikes Tasmac employees’ salaries by 25%

The Tamil Nadu government announced a 25% salary increase for Tasmac employees, raising Assistant Salesmen salaries from ₹14,030 to ₹17,925, Salesmen from ₹15,530 to ₹19,413, and Supervisors from ₹17,850 to ₹22,313. This adjustment will add ₹110.74 crore to government expenditures. The state has allocated ₹550.72 crore for salaries. Employees have long demanded Employee State Insurance (ESI) coverage, which the Chief Minister has now directed to be provided. Additional measures include addressing wage disputes, electricity bills, and rental issues for Tasmac workers. To combat price gouging, the government stated that any liquor sold above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) will result in disciplinary action, including dismissal. Over the past two months, 40 individuals have been suspended for such violations. Licenses for approximately 2,320 bars linked to liquor retail outlets have been extended by two months, though new tender processes could take up to four weeks.
