The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in five districts of Andhra Pradesh, including Yanam, today as a low pressure area forms over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coasts of West Bengal and north Odisha. According to the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, the system developed at 5.30 a.m. and intensified into a well-marked low pressure area by 2.30 p.m. It continues to persist over the same region at 5.30 p.m. This system is expected to move northwestward and consolidate into a depression within the next 12 hours. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Anakapalli, and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts, as well as Yanam, over the next 24 hours. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued advisories regarding the weather conditions. Winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are anticipated over the northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal and along the north Andhra Pradesh coast until Tuesday. The sea is expected to remain rough, with waves possibly surging, prompting warnings to fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. Those already at sea are urged to return to the shore immediately. The advisory initially applies to the north Andhra Pradesh coast and Yanam but will expand to cover south coastal Andhra Pradesh starting Tuesday. Sea conditions are projected to be rough to very rough off the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha, and north Andhra Pradesh until Tuesday. In addition to heavy rain, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated locations in several districts on Monday. These include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Nellore, and Tirupati. Light rain is also forecast for Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Markapuram, Prakasam, and Chittoor. On Tuesday, light to moderate rain is likely over the north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Authorities are urging the public to stay alert during these periods. Strong surface winds of 40-50 kmph are also expected at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next two days. Data from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Amaravati indicates that Tirupati recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state on Sunday at 38.5°C, which is 3.5°C above normal. Kavali followed with 38.3°C, and Bapatla reached 37.9°C. Only Tuni recorded rainfall, at 8 mm. Relative humidity was highest at Visakhapatnam, reaching 80%. The bulletin also highlighted swell surge alerts for coastal districts such as Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Krishna, and West Godavari, with wave heights of up to 1.4 meters expected through Sunday evening. Ocean current alerts were issued for the Krishna and Nellore coasts, advising harbor and marine operations to take precautions. The Chief Secretary, the Commissioner for Disaster Management, and district collectors across the state have been alerted, along with All India Radio stations and railway authorities, as part of a precautionary measure. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are expected. Meanwhile, the IMD has also predicted that wet weather conditions are likely to persist in Delhi-NCR until at least August 19, with more showers expected during the Independence Day weekend.
