The concrete truck has come out of the river
A large truck carrying gravel fell into the river Þjórsá late yesterday evening. According to information from Landsvirkjun, the driver of the vehicle exited the bridge on Þjórsárdalsveg near Sultartangavirkjun. The truck belongs to Steypustöðvar according to the company's information. The driver was transported to Landspítala by ambulance from the National Rescue Service around 8 PM last night due to hypothermia and was said to be in good condition. He had climbed onto the truck which was located on the bank above the river when the rescue team arrived. An emergency call was made at 8 AM and the National Rescue Service team arrived at the site eight minutes after 8 AM, according to the spokesperson for the service. Police and rescue teams were also involved in the operation, and Landsvirkjun took action after being informed of the incident yesterday. 'We reduced traffic from Sultartangalóni to allow them to inspect while they were retrieving the truck, which went smoothly. They could go out there with the crane and pull it up,' said Ragnhildur Sverrisdóttir from Landsvirkjun. The operation took place within an hour and the truck was brought ashore at 3 AM today.
