A new season of the popular Croatian series Srama is currently being filmed, centered around a central dilemma: can we love someone if our prejudices scream “She’s not right for you.” The first episode of the fourth season took place in the Zagreb district of Voltino, with Vanessa at the heart of the story and her coming-of-age journey in the capital city. The filming of the fourth season of Srama, a hit series for young audiences, began in the Zagreb neighborhood of Voltino. At the center of this season is Vanessa, whose personal growth and experiences in Zagreb will take center stage. On the first day of filming, Vanessa was joined by other members of the cast, the "Mrcine", Eva, Nora, Nix, and Tina. Filming will continue over seven weeks across multiple locations throughout Zagreb, including well-known spots such as Vladimir Prelog's Natural Science School, local neighborhoods, and entirely new locations tailored specifically to Vanessa's storyline. This season marks the first time viewers are given deeper insight into Vanessa’s world, introducing new characters who offer a slightly different perspective on Zagreb. The core theme revolves around a romantic narrative that is both uncommon and engaging, using it to explore intimacy, belonging, and growing up. The main question posed by the season is whether we can choose whom we love if we cannot overcome the prejudices we have grown up with. According to the show’s director, Jelena Gavrilović, the season aims to reveal how Vanessa’s teenage years and her upbringing in Zagreb look through the lens of these themes. Viewers will gain a better understanding of the challenges and moments that shaped Vanessa during her adolescence. Preparations for the new season included several months of script development, intensive work on new characters, and acting rehearsals. Before filming commenced, a five-day acting workshop was organized, during which the entire cast participated in readings and rehearsals away from Zagreb. This period was crucial for building connections among both new and existing cast members before they returned to the set. Alongside Jelena Gavrilović, the team included screenwriter Sandra Pašić and cinematographer Tomislav Sutlar, according to producer Bruno Mustić. The fourth season introduces a range of new characters that expand the existing world of the series and introduce viewers to Vanessa’s family, community, and daily life, elements previously unexplored. In addition to familiar faces from the first three seasons, the new cast explores relationships, friendships, and conflicts that will play a key role in Vanessa’s coming-of-age journey. Adapting international formats presents one of the biggest challenges: making the original story feel authentic and relevant to the local audience. The creators emphasize that the series focuses on themes that resonate with the public, while telling them in a way that feels familiar and relatable. These themes include identity, social dynamics, and personal growth, all explored through the eyes of young people without judgment or embellishment. Srama is a Croatian adaptation of the internationally successful Norwegian series SKAM, a television phenomenon known for its realistic portrayal of youth life and storytelling style. While the Croatian version retains the fundamental idea of the original, to tell stories from the perspective of young people without manipulation, it has developed its own unique characters, plots, and local identity. The series continues to reflect the realities of contemporary youth culture in Croatia. Filming for the fourth season of Srama, the most-watched modern Croatian series, will run until early October. Viewers will be able to watch the new episodes this autumn on Croatian Radio and Television and digital platforms.
