Comments by Lovra Kastelica: The Diaspora

The article by Lovro Kastelj discusses the changing landscape of international football, focusing on the increasing role of diaspora players and the impact of globalization on talent recruitment. It highlights how European nations, particularly France, Germany, Spain, England, and the Netherlands, dominate the current World Cup due to their strong youth development systems and high number of players born in these countries. The author argues that while the tournament has become more globally inclusive, the heart of world football remains in Western Europe. He criticizes the reliance on recruiting foreign talents rather than developing local players, noting that many top teams now rely heavily on players trained abroad. The piece raises concerns that future World Cups may reflect global migration patterns rather than national identity, suggesting that national teams may increasingly represent migrant communities rather than the cultural values of their home countries.

V sklepnem delu večera je sledila predstavitev jubilejne znanstvene monografije o 35-letnem delovanju Svetovnega slovenskega kongresa, v kateri so sodelovali urednik dr. Dejan Valentinčič ter avtorji dr. David Hazemali in dr. Damjan Kukovec. Razprava je osvetlila zgodovinski pomen kongresa, njegovo vlogo pri osamosvajanju Slovenije in njegov razvoj v eno najpomembnejših povezovalnih organizacij slovenskega naroda. Govorniki so poudarili, da monografija ni le pregled prehojene poti, ampak tudi izhodišče.
