The city of Maribor is set to open an exhibition titled '50 Years of Sweet Memories: The Story of Maribor's Lastovka' on July 3, 2026, which will remain open throughout the summer. The exhibition was conceived by curator Jan Malec, who explained that the idea originated from local community resistance against the privatization of the building six years ago. Today, around 90% of the exhibits come from stories shared by citizens and visitors, many of whom visit specifically because of Lastovka, a beloved local ice cream shop. Malec noted that Lastovka has been a long-time partner, having sponsored the renovation of the Trafika building and maintaining a friendly relationship with the museum. The exhibition will feature a mix of photographs, historical facts, and artifacts, including a 20-year-old hat and the first ice cream vending machine. The Lastovka family's history dates back to 1923, with their operations beginning in Maribor in 1969 with a single ice cream machine. Over the decades, the family business expanded into a successful enterprise now managed by the third generation. The exhibition aims to highlight both the historical significance and the cultural impact of Lastovka,

Ob 50. obletnici Lastovke so v Trafiki, muzeju ob Glavnem mostu, odprli razstavo o zgodbi priljubljene mariborske sladoledarne. Trafika stoji tik ob sladoledarni Lastovka ob Glavnem mostu.

Poklon "najboljšemu sosedu" in lokalni skupnosti. V bistvu bo to zgodovinska in hkrati dokumentarna razstava," nam razkrije kustos.

(PHOTO) The ice cream that every Maribor resident knows: Lastovka's story goes back more than half a century

The article recounts the history of the ice cream shop 'Lastovka' in Maribor, Slovenia, which has been operating since 1976. Founded by the Demiri family, who arrived in Slovenia in 1923, the shop started selling ice cream at three locations, including a famous kiosk on Freedom Square. The name 'Lastovka,' meaning 'swallow,' was suggested by a friend of the founder's father in 1976. The shop became popular among students and visitors, especially during weekends. The current owner, Sheriff Demiri, recalls his early days working at the shop, including an embarrassing incident where two ice creams fell into a chocolate fountain. The shop remains family-run, with manual production processes, and continues to attract customers daily.

After a sensational exhibition at the Karolinska Museum in Celovec on the crimes of Nazism, the book

The Deželni muzej za Koroško in Celovec hosted an exhibition titled 'Hinschaun! Poglejmo. Kärten und der Nationalsozialismus. Koroška in nacional socializem' from May 9 to October 26, 2025, which attracted over 25,000 visitors. The exhibition focused on the crimes of Nazism in the Koroška region, highlighting the systematic expulsion of Slovenians during this period. It was notable for being the first such exhibition in the region and for involving Slovenian contributors, including co-author Andreas Krištof, whose family was forcibly displaced by Nazis in 1942. Following the exhibition, a publication with the same title was released, providing an extensive overview of the exhibition's content and reflections on future approaches to these historical topics. Museum director Dr. Wolfgang Muchitsch emphasized the importance of critically examining historical processes and societal issues, particularly those related to collective memory and suppressed aspects of regional history.

Bias read (Center): The article presents a balanced account of the exhibition and its significance, focusing on historical facts and the museum's role in promoting critical reflection on the past. Why these scores (Factual 50 · Objective 60): This article covers an entirely different topic—related to a Nazi-era exhibition in Celovc—and does not discuss Lastovka at all. Therefore, it cannot be evaluated for factual accuracy or objectivity regarding the shared event. The score reflects irrelevance to the subject matter.
