Senapred reports 206 damaged and 1,284 isolated by frontal system between Valparaíso and Los Lagos

Senapred has reported 206 affected individuals and 1,284 isolated persons due to a frontal system affecting areas between Valparaíso and Los Lagos. The National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred) released an updated assessment on Saturday, detailing the impact of the weather event. According to the report, three people were injured, with no fatalities or missing persons linked to the emergency. The damage assessment includes nine destroyed homes, 86 with major damage, 919 with minor damage, and 549 under evaluation. Director Alicia Cebrián of Senapred noted that the organization monitored affected zones throughout the night and early morning, focusing particularly on regions of Maule and Biobío, which will face another weather event this weekend, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall. The Region of La Araucanía recorded the highest number of affected individuals, with 84, followed by Los Ríos with 55 and Maule with 32. In terms of isolated individuals, La Araucanía had the largest figure, with 577, followed by Los Lagos with 300, Biobío with 192, Maule with 131, and Ñuble with 77. Eighty-two people were accommodated in shelters, distributed among Ñuble (41), Los Ríos (20), La Araucanía (15), and Biobío (6). Road connectivity between Valparaíso and Los Lagos was significantly impacted. The report highlighted disruptions caused by mass removals, river overflows, flooding, sinkholes, riverbank erosion, tree falls, snowfall, and bridge damages. Some sections remained open with restricted access or one-way traffic while recovery efforts continued. Cebrián explained that monitoring from south to north indicated that San Pablo commune in Los Lagos remained under red alert due to overflow from the Bueno River. In Los Ríos, Valdivia, Los Lagos, and La Unión communes were under red alert due to river overflows. Heavy precipitation led to river overflows, making roads impassable, and a bridge collapse in Panguipullí commune, where local authorities were already working on-site. In Araucanía, the worst impacts were observed in Angol, Teodoro Schmidt, and Victoria communes, with effects on residents, mass removals, landslides, sinkholes, and river overflows. In Biobío, several routes were disrupted due to snow, river overflows, and mass removals in Los Ángeles, Alto Bío Bío, Nacimiento, Mulchén, Santa Juana, and Curanilahue communes. In Ñuble, mass removals affected roads in Cuelemo, Cobquecura, Niquen, San Carlos, San Fabián, Quillón, and Chillán Viejo. In O’Higgins, route closures occurred due to mass removals and flooding in Marchihue commune, and preventive closure due to overflow in Machalí commune. In the Metropolitan Region, Route G-21 and G-251 in Lo Barnechea commune were open with caution. Meteorological conditions continue to pose challenges, with ongoing assessments needed to monitor further developments. Authorities remain vigilant, coordinating efforts to restore infrastructure and support affected communities. The situation remains dynamic, requiring continuous updates and response adjustments as conditions evolve.
