Selective hunting of ministers: Cigler King targeted for 'family car', but not for the luxury car park of Svoboda

Minister Janez Cigler Kralj has come under fire from the investigative website Necenzurirano over the purchase of a new official vehicle, which the site claims was bought using public funds as a "family car." The controversy centers around a Volkswagen Tayron 2.0 TDI purchased for €39,500 including VAT, just below the threshold requiring a public tender. The car is seven-seater and can be used privately by the minister, with additional costs arising from hiring an external driver. According to estimates, the total cost could exceed €50,000. This scrutiny comes after similar purchases made during the previous administration, led by Minister Mateja Čalušić of the Freedom Party (Svoboda). The situation gained momentum when Necenzurirano published its critique of Cigler Kralj's decision, highlighting the perceived discrepancy between his choice of a more practical and less expensive vehicle and the prior administration’s acquisition of luxury cars. In response, Cigler Kralj took to social media to defend his actions, stating he had four children and opted for a mid-range, functional vehicle rather than a high-end model chosen by his predecessor.
