Two exhausted Czechs were rescued by the mountain service on the Grossglockner
Two exhausted Czech climbers were rescued by mountain rescue services on the Grossglockner peak in Austria. The pair had started their climb on Saturday from the Stüdlgrat ridge at an elevation of 3,798 meters. As the weather deteriorated in the afternoon with snowfall, they remained stranded around 3,700 meters after dark. Authorities reported that the climbers built an emergency shelter and spent the night in a storm. A rescue operation was initiated on Sunday when a helicopter could not reach them due to weather conditions. Two rescuers from the Austrian mountain service climbed up to assist the climbers, helping them warm up enough to descend to the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte hut. Earlier on Saturday, the same mountain rescue team had assisted a 29-year-old Czech climber who suffered serious injuries from a 10-meter fall on the same ridge.
