A new pop culture festival called Sandstorm Playgrounds is set to launch in Abu Dhabi from August 14 to 16 at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The event will feature comic-book enthusiasts, gamers, collectors, and artists, offering trading-card and video-game tournaments, a cosplay showcase, interactive activities, and live entertainment. It will also include an artist alley and a marketplace where independent creators and established brands can sell comics, toys, collectibles, and exclusive merchandise. Organized by Sandstorm Comics, an Abu Dhabi-based studio focused on developing local comic talent and promoting regional stories internationally, the festival aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Dh30 billion Culture and Creative Industries Strategy. The event follows previous initiatives like Storm the Block and Sandbox Swapmeet, aiming to foster creative communities and support local talent.
