Relocated from Bengal to Assam, tigress being brought back after tranquilisation

A three-year-old tigress originally transferred from Bihar to West Bengal’s Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR) was tranquilized in Assam on Tuesday to facilitate her return to BTR. After arriving in BTR in early October, the animal crossed into Assam on October 23 and traveled approximately 25 to 30 kilometers into Raimona National Park while searching for a new territory. Forest departments from both states, alongside the National Tiger Conservation Authority, monitored the tigress via trail cameras before deciding to intervene. The animal was transported to the Hasimara Air Force Base using an Indian Air Force C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. State wildlife authorities indicated that the chief wildlife warden will determine the timing for her final release within the BTR.
