A SUBOTIC RECORD! More than 1,400 tons of garbage collected in a compost removal operation

During this year's spring campaign for collecting bulky waste in Subotica, over 1,400 tons of waste were collected, setting a new record. However, citizens partially misused the containers by filling them with construction debris, branches, and household waste, which was not intended for this specific collection. The previous record stood at 1,200 tons. While the campaign successfully removed large amounts of waste from the environment, preventing the creation of illegal landfills, it was noted that the initiative was not fully utilized as intended. The campaign took place between mid-March and mid-June, covering 17 urban and suburban communities, with the Peščara community collecting the most waste at around 112 tons. Poor citizen behavior, such as leaving waste at locations before containers were placed and returning waste after they were removed, caused logistical challenges for workers. Authorities urged residents to follow guidelines for future campaigns.
