Reacts to IOC decision

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), allowing Russian athletes to participate in future Olympics, effective from the qualification period for the 2028 Los Angeles Games and the 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Italy. This decision follows a legal review by the IOC’s judicial commission, which determined that the ROC no longer includes regional sports organizations within Ukraine’s jurisdiction as members. The ROC confirmed it does not operate in these territories and agreed to continue monitoring its activities there. However, Norway’s Sports Federation (NIF) expressed disagreement, stating they have consistently opposed Russian and Belarusian participation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While some Russian athletes have already competed in recent events like the February Olympics and March Paralympics, the IOC has not yet decided on displaying the Russian flag, anthem, or other symbols during the games.
