QRIS reaches 65.77 mln users, accepted by 44.86 mln merchants: BI

Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that as of June 2026, the QRIS payment system has reached 65.77 million users and is accepted by 44.86 million merchants, with 96.68% of those merchants being Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). BI highlighted QRIS as a critical gateway for MSMEs to enter the digital financial ecosystem, emphasizing its role in enhancing productivity, market access, and integration into the digital economy. BI outlined three strategies to support MSME digitalization: e-farming, e-commerce, and e-financing. The institution also discussed initiatives like the Indonesian Digital Innovation Center (PIDI), which aims to foster collaboration among various stakeholders to develop digital solutions tailored for MSMEs. BI organized an Innovation Talk focused on accelerating MSME digital transformation, underscoring the importance of digital data utilization and stakeholder synergies.

Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that its QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) payment system has reached 65.77 million users as of June 2026, with 44.86 million merchants accepting the system. Of these merchants, 96.68 percent are classified as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The figures were disclosed during a statement issued by BI in Jakarta on Friday. The expansion of QRIS has positioned it as a key tool in facilitating smoother financial transactions and integrating MSMEs into the broader digital financial ecosystem. BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta highlighted that QRIS serves as the primary entry point for MSMEs into the digital financial landscape. She noted that digital transformation is crucial for enhancing productivity, broadening market access, and enabling MSMEs to progress within the rapidly evolving digital economy. To support this transition, BI has outlined three core strategies aimed at guiding MSMEs toward digital adoption. These include promoting e-farming through digital tools to boost productivity and operational efficiency. Additionally, the initiative focuses on e-commerce, encouraging MSMEs to onboard digitally to expand their market reach. Lastly, e-financing initiatives leverage the Financial Information Recording Application Information System (SIAPIK) to improve financial reporting accuracy and facilitate better access to credit. BI continues to bolster these efforts through the establishment of the Indonesian Digital Innovation Center (PIDI). This center acts as a platform connecting talent, innovators, industry players, government bodies, and strategic partners to develop practical digital solutions tailored for the real sector, particularly for MSMEs. According to Filianingsih, PIDI embodies the collaborative effort among BI, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and other strategic allies to drive innovation and cultivate national digital expertise. For MSMEs, PIDI provides a framework for creating accessible and scalable digital solutions designed to elevate productivity, streamline operations, and broaden access to both markets and financial services. BI recently hosted an Innovation Talk titled “Accelerating MSME Digital Transformation: Integrating Digital Innovation Towards Leveling Up MSMEs,” which was part of the 2026 Indonesian Creative Works (KKI) series. During the session, participants discussed how digital innovations can enhance business performance, expand market opportunities, and improve access to financing. The discussions underscored the significance of leveraging digital data to benefit MSMEs, with emphasis placed on the role of the banking sector in supporting this process. Strengthening digital records for MSMEs was identified as essential for improving operational efficiency, governance standards, and overall financial accessibility. Looking ahead, BI plans to intensify collaboration with stakeholders and embrace the ethos of Beudaya MeusareSare, translating to “Empowering Together”, to further expedite the digital transformation of MSMEs. This approach aims to make businesses more adaptable, innovative, and competitive, ultimately contributing to the long-term economic growth of Indonesia.
