Protestors filed a complaint against the City of Zagreb for alleged religious discrimination

The Croatian Protestant Conference (HPK) has reported to the Office of the Public Ombudsman regarding alleged religious discrimination by the City of Zagreb. The HPK submitted a request in August 2023 to the City's Department for Reconstruction, Construction, Spatial Planning, and Municipal Services to illuminate Zagreb's fountains red on November 19th to commemorate Red Wednesday, an international day of solidarity with persecuted Christians worldwide. Despite providing all necessary documentation, the city did not approve the request nor provided any written decision or explanation. After repeated inquiries went unanswered, the HPK filed a complaint with the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction, and State Property, which instructed the city to resolve the matter within 15 days. However, the HPK has yet to receive any response from the city, and the ministry has not confirmed whether the city complied with their directive. The HPK claims this situation constitutes both administrative negligence and religious discrimination.
