Traffic accident: in the Šentvid tunnel closed imports from the direction of the Celovka road to Kosezam

A traffic accident occurred at the Šentvid interchange on the Gorenjska motorway, leading to the closure of vehicle entry from the Celovška road towards Kosez. The incident caused disruptions on multiple highways, including the Primorska motorway between Lom and Unc, and between Senožeče and Gabrka toward Kopře. Traffic congestion was also reported on roads leading to city centers, during morning rush hours, and before work shifts. On the Primorska motorway, there was a complete blockage at the Postojna junction, with both exits and entries restricted. Full closure of the entrance from Postojna to Ljubljana is expected from 17:00 on Monday, July 6th, until 12:00 on July 12th. Detours are planned via the Razdrto and Unec junctions. Additional closures were announced for several other roads throughout July and August due to construction work.

A tragic collision on the road between Kočevje and Ribnica has claimed the lives of two young drivers, according to reports from local media outlets. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m., when a 21-year-old male driver of a private vehicle collided with a 27-year-old female driver of another private vehicle. According to statements from the Police Directorate in Ljubljana, the female driver was traveling from Grčaric towards Dolenji vas and attempted to turn left into Dolenji vas. This maneuver blocked the path of the male driver, who was heading along the main road from Ribnica toward Kočevje. Both individuals sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene due to the consequences of their injuries. Police officers conducted an investigation at the site and continue to gather information, which will be forwarded to the appropriate state prosecutor’s office.

The accident led to temporary traffic disruptions as authorities worked to clear the area and remove evidence. Initially, the section of the road was closed until around 10:30 a.m., after which full traffic flow was restored. The police confirmed that the road is now completely reopened, allowing vehicles to pass without restrictions. Despite the closure, there were no further casualties reported, and both drivers were identified based on the initial information provided by emergency responders.

In addition to the Kočevje-Ribnica incident, other parts of Slovenia experienced traffic congestion due to various reasons. On the Gorenjska motorway, near the Šentvid tunnel, a traffic accident caused a partial blockage of the entrance from the Celovška highway toward Kosez. This disruption affected the movement of vehicles entering the motorway from that direction. Similarly, on the Primorska motorway, there were delays between the Lom rest stop and Unc, as well as between Senožeče and Gabrke near Kopř. These incidents contributed to increased traffic volume during morning rush hours, particularly on roads leading to urban centers, city outskirts, and near workplaces.

Further complications arose on several other sections of Slovenian highways. For instance, the road between Sorica and Podrost near Spodnja Sorica remained closed until 7 p.m. due to ongoing construction work. The route between Gortina and Muta on the Muta side was also under repair and remained closed until late July. Additionally, the road between Begunje and Tržič near Begunje was scheduled for closure throughout August, while the stretch between Črnivec and Radmirje near Novo Štift was closed for part of July. During the tourist season, from June to September, heavy trucks exceeding a maximum allowed mass of 7.5 tons faced restrictions, especially on certain days and times, including weekends and holidays.

On the Štajerska motorway, there were temporary height restrictions for special transports in the tunnels of Golo rebro and Pletovarje due to dual-directional traffic conditions. These measures aimed to ensure safety and prevent potential accidents in these high-traffic areas.

While the Kočevje-Ribnica tragedy resulted in two fatalities, another incident on the Hoče-Pesnica road saw two individuals injured but with less severe injuries. Around 1:15 p.m., a collision occurred between a truck and a passenger car, both traveling from Melja toward Pesnica. Although the damage to the vehicles was significant, the police stated that the incident did not result in serious harm. Two lightly injured individuals were transported to the hospital, and the road was temporarily closed for some time to allow for cleanup operations. The police confirmed that the accident fell under category II, indicating that no one suffered life-threatening injuries.

As the country continues to navigate these traffic challenges, officials remain focused on restoring normalcy and ensuring public safety. With the Kočevje-Ribnica road fully open and other closures gradually being resolved, authorities are working to minimize the impact of these incidents on daily commuters and travelers alike.
