Industrial production to decline by 3.8% in 2025
The industrial production in Portugal decreased by 3.8% in 2025, according to preliminary results from the Annual Industrial Production Survey by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The value of sales of products and services in manufacturing industries amounted to €110.6 billion, influenced largely by falling prices reflected in a 2.9% year-on-year decline in the Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI). The largest contributions to the decrease were from the production of coke and refined petroleum products (-3.3 percentage points), followed by machinery and equipment manufacturing, and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning production and distribution (-0.4 percentage points each). The food industry remained the most significant contributor to the value of product sales and services (16.2%), increasing by 2.4% compared to 2024. Motor vehicle, trailer, and semi-trailer manufacturing saw a 5.5% increase, while metal product manufacturing (excluding machines and equipment) declined by 4.2%. Domestic market sales totaled €54.8 billion, representing 51.2% of the total, slightly higher than exports but down 3.4% from 2024. Export sales fell by 3.6% overall, with a sharper 6.
