Extensive fire near Slovenia: fire destroys paint and varnish warehouse, firefighters prevent further damage (PHOTO)

A large fire broke out early in the morning near Karlovac, Slovenia, in the industrial area of Mala Švarča, affecting multiple warehouses. The fire started at around 4 AM and quickly spread to adjacent facilities belonging to Nova Chem and Gavranović, as well as the premises of AB Produkt. Due to a delayed alarm call, firefighters arrived to find the fire already extensively spread. Despite the challenges, over 55 firefighters using 28 vehicles managed to control the blaze and save parts of the complex. While Nova Chem and Gavranović suffered total damage, AB Produkt’s machinery was mostly saved. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire by midday and kept the area under surveillance overnight. No casualties were reported. The fire released thick black smoke with a strong chemical odor, prompting warnings to residents to close windows and avoid exposure. Specialized experts were called to assess air quality. Water supply was temporarily disrupted due to heavy usage during firefighting, but wastewater was diverted away from nearby rivers. Police will investigate the cause of the fire.
